Oldham Couplings
Precision-engineered set screw, clamp, SL, and WH type Oldham couplings for servo motors, CNC machines, robotics, and industrial drive systems. ISO 9001 certified manufacturing, bore sizes from 3 mm to 80 mm.
Precision Oldham Couplings for Every Shaft Drive Application
Every Oldham coupling in the Ever-power range is built around the same core principle: a three-piece floating disc assembly that transmits torque between two shafts while generating zero axial load on motor or spindle bearings. The floating centre disc absorbs lateral parallel offset up to ±1.5 mm and angular misalignment up to 1.0° without transferring bending forces to either connected shaft.
We manufacture four principal series — Set Screw, Clamp, SL, and WH — each optimised for different bore size ranges, torque demands, and application environments. Hub materials include 6061 aluminium alloy, SS304 stainless steel, and engineering steel. Centre disc materials are available in PA66 nylon, POM/Delrin, and polyurethane to match speed, torque, and wear life requirements.
Non-standard bore diameters, keyway profiles, and custom set-screw configurations are machined to order. All products are supplied with dimensional datasheets and STEP format 3D models as standard.

Clamp Type Oldham Couplings
Why Choose the Clamp Type for Servo Motor Applications
The clamp-style hub uses a split bore closed by a tangential bolt, generating uniform radial clamping force distributed evenly around the full circumference of the shaft. This method produces no localised stress concentration — a key advantage over set-screw fixation when protecting servo motor output shaft surfaces that must remain undamaged for warranty compliance.
The split hub also allows the coupling to be assembled and disassembled many times without degrading shaft surface condition, making it the preferred choice in applications where couplings are routinely removed for maintenance or motor exchange.

Set Screw Oldham Couplings
The Standard Choice for Stepper Motors and Light Servo Drives
Set screw Oldham couplings use one or two radial grub screws bearing against the shaft surface or against a machined flat, providing a straightforward axial fixation method that covers the widest range of bore sizes in the smallest overall envelope. The design is the most economical hub fixation option and is well-suited to high-volume machine builds where torque levels and maintenance frequency are moderate.
When specifying set screw hubs, we recommend machining a flat on the shaft at the set-screw contact point to prevent shaft rotation under load and to distribute the clamping stress over a larger area. This extends both shaft service life and coupling holding torque.

SL Type Oldham Couplings
Compact Axial Profile for Space-Constrained Precision Drives
The SL series is designed for applications where axial shaft spacing is tightly constrained — a common requirement in medical imaging equipment, semiconductor wafer-handling systems, and optical positioning stages. The compact disc-hub geometry reduces the overall coupling length compared to standard series while retaining the full zero-axial-force characteristic of the Oldham mechanism.
POM disc material is standard on the SL series, providing dimensional stability across temperature cycles and low moisture absorption — critical in cleanroom semiconductor environments and medical device applications where dimensional consistency after sterilisation exposure must be maintained. The electrical insulation property of POM also prevents current leakage paths between motor and load shafts in sensitive instrumentation.
Key Technical Parameters
| Hub Material | 6061 Aluminium Alloy / SS304 |
| Disc Material | POM (standard) / PA66 Nylon |
| Bore Tolerance | H7 standard, H6 available |
| Surface Finish | Black anodised / natural aluminium |
| Axial Length | Reduced vs standard series — see datasheet |
| Electrical Insulation | Yes — POM disc isolates shaft to shaft |
Recommended Applications
- Medical imaging table drives and laboratory instrument axes
- Semiconductor wafer-handling and die-bonding equipment
- Optical positioning stages and laser scanning systems
- Precision miniature servo drives in tight axial envelopes
- Cleanroom automation requiring chemical-resistant disc material

WH Type Oldham Couplings
Wide-Hub Design for High-Torque Industrial Drive Lines
The WH series extends the Oldham coupling operating range into higher torque industrial applications where standard-width hubs would be inadequate. The wider hub body increases the tongue cross-section area, raising torque capacity to 300 N·m while retaining the full zero-axial-force characteristic of the Oldham mechanism. The larger hub also accommodates greater shaft diameters — up to 80 mm — covering industrial motor shafts and gearbox output connections.
Polyurethane disc material is the standard recommendation for WH series in packaging and indexing applications, where cyclic torque peaks and vibration damping are priorities. PU material absorbs shock loads during indexing cycles, protecting connected gearboxes and motors from torque spikes. The centre disc is field-replaceable without removing either hub from its shaft — a significant advantage in production environments where maintenance windows are short.
Key Technical Parameters
| Hub Material | 6061 Aluminium Alloy (standard) / Steel |
| Disc Material | Polyurethane (standard) / PA66 Nylon |
| Bore Tolerance | H7 standard, keyway available |
| Surface Finish | Black anodised / natural aluminium |
| Disc Replacement | Field-replaceable without hub removal |
| Vibration Damping | Yes — PU disc absorbs torque peaks |
Recommended Applications
- Food and beverage packaging line indexing drives
- Conveyor and sorting system motor connections
- Industrial pump and fan shaft couplings
- Printing press and web-handling drive lines
- Applications with cyclic shock loads requiring vibration damping

Oldham Coupling Selection Guide
Four key parameters determine which series and configuration is correct for your application. Work through each step, then contact our engineering team if you need guidance.
Calculate Required Torque
Determine the peak torque your application demands, including service factors for start-stop frequency, load reversals, and shock events. Apply a minimum 20% safety margin above the calculated peak. This value determines which series is viable — SL up to 80 N·m, Clamp up to 200 N·m, WH up to 300 N·m.
Identify Bore Sizes
Measure or obtain the exact shaft diameters on both drive and driven sides. The two bores do not need to be identical — Oldham couplings accommodate different bore sizes in each hub. Verify that both values fall within the bore range of your target series. Provide bore size and any keyway or flat dimensions in your enquiry.
Check Speed and Misalignment
Verify your maximum operating speed against the series rpm rating. Measure or estimate the shaft-to-shaft parallel offset in the assembled machine — this must be within the lateral misalignment tolerance of the selected series. Minor angular misalignment up to 1.0° is absorbed by all series without side loading.
Choose Hub Fixation Method
Set screw hubs are lower cost and suit new shaft installations where assembly and disassembly frequency is low. Clamp hubs are preferred where shaft surfaces must be protected, or where the coupling will be removed repeatedly. Consider whether a machined flat on the shaft is acceptable for set screw applications.
Choose Your Disc Material
PA66 nylon is the standard choice for servo and stepper motor drives up to 3,000 rpm with moderate load cycles. POM provides greater dimensional stability and chemical resistance for cleanroom and medical applications. Polyurethane is specified for high-torque drives with shock loads and vibration damping requirements, typically at lower speeds.
Request Engineering Support
If your application parameters sit at a series boundary or include unusual conditions — high chemical exposure, extreme temperature, frequent reversals, or very high cycle rates — send your full drive data to our engineering team. We will review the duty cycle and recommend the optimum configuration, including disc material service life estimate.
